Sweet Hereafter, State of Grace’s winter 2012 collection, looks at feminine styling from a bygone era, with a fresh, modern perspective.

A 1950s feel seeps through the collection influencing silhouettes. Nipped in waists are defined with fine fabric belts, and skirts are fuller, flared and circular cut. The mushroom pink Last Kiss Dress, harks back in time, with its vintage inspired three quarter sleeves and scalloped lace hem. Conversely proportions remain modern – cropped, fitted jackets and flared silk tops work with waisted skirts and trousers.

The dark winter colour palette is punctuated with deep rich reds, bright peacock blues and a variety of prints, from floral to plaid to a graphic linear leaf design. Lace, one of the most feminine of fabrics, is renewed with bold colours. Contrasting trims, topstitching or a subtly ruched sleeve, provide subdued forms of detailing, and textures range from fine needle-cord corduroy to chunky knits.

Contemporary colours, prints and proportions melded with vintage influences, to create this assured, lady-like collection of clothes.
